Top Songs of 1986

We've added a few hundred more votes from our 1986 polls. While Madonna still sits at #1, numbers two and three switch positions with the Pet Shop Boys (pictured) overtaking Bon Jovi. "West End Girls" was the hit that put the Pet Shop Boys on the map, but they had 11 more hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and more than 30 hits on Billboard's dance charts. Our 1980s polls are ongoing, so please visit and vote - the song lists are sure to bring back memories.

Kylie Minogue Continues Chart Success

This week on the THO 100, Kylie Minogue notches her 18th hit on the chart with "In My Arms." She is one of the most successful artists of the past nine years, but there are still 23 other artists with more career hits than Kylie according to our all-time chart. In Kylie's honor, we've created a poll for music-lovers to vote on their favorite song from her career. Since TopHitsOnline only goes back to 1993, we've included her three pre-1993 U.S. hits in the poll: I Should Be So Lucky, The Loco-Motion, and It's No Secret.

THO 100 Update for the week ending February 23, 2008

This week on the THO 100 Rihanna remains at #1 with her hit "Don't Stop The Music," but she may not be there long. The song loses points while OneRepublic (pictured) has the song with the largest point gain in "Stop And Stare." OneRepublic, still better-known for their smash collaboration with Timbaland in "Apologize," move up to #3. Could a band that most people barely know anything about have their second number one hit? Check out the full chart here.

Artist Rankings Updated

Since we last updated our all-time rankings of artists with the most songs in THO's chart history (dating back to 1993), several artists on the list have added to their totals. Other artists that move up the chart include Mary J. Blige, Radiohead, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, and Sugababes. The only new artist to appear on the list, now with 13 total hits, is Kanye West. Top Songs of 1981

We've processed a few more hundred votes, and Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes" remains at #1 in our Top 100 Songs of 1981 chart. While our poll results from other years include a variety of dance and slow songs in the top end of the chart, the 1981 chart has mostly upbeat tunes in the top 10 with the exception of REO Speedwagon's "Keep On Loving You" and "Endless Love" by Diana Ross & Lionel Richie. Our Ultimate 80s polls keep going, and we keep updating the charts. Later this year, look for us to begin new polls for the 1990s!

THO 100 Update for the week ending February 16, 2008

Rihanna spends a second week atop the THO 100 this week, and in fact the top three songs do not move. But further down the chart there is a lot of action: Kylie Minogue collects her 10th top 10 hit since THO began, David Jordan (pictured here) has the largest chart mover and the largest point gain, and there are eight debuts on the chart. Have a great weekend and enjoy the chart.

2008 Brit Awards

Although most of our readers are from the US, Top Hits Online is not just about the US music scene. You'll notice that the THO 100 has many UK and Australian hits. On February 20th the 2008 Brit Awards will be held in London. This is one of our favorite awards shows, because there are only 10 awards handed out, rather than the 100+ awards given at the US Grammys. We've created polls for the best British this-and-that. See the links below:
British Group
British Albums
British Single
British Breakthrough Act
British Male Solo Artist
British Female Solo Artist

Tomorrow we'll have polls for the four international Brit awards.

THO 100 Update for the week ending February 9, 2008

Rihanna notches her third #1 on the THO 100 this week, as "Don't Stop The Music" overtakes Britney Spears' "Piece Of Me." Rihanna first tasted chart success in 2005 with "Pon De Replay," and gathered her first #1 hit with "SOS (Rescue Me)" in 2006. Last year she hit #1 again with "Umbrella" (featuring Jay-Z). Britney's "Piece Of Me" lasted two weeks in the top spot, significantly less than her last single, "Gimme More," which spent 6 weeks at the top starting last October. Enjoy the new chart!

Valentines Day Approaches - What is the Best Love Song of All-Time?

Valentines Day will be here soon, and as music lovers it makes us wonder what are the best love songs of all-time. We've conducted two polls in the past (with over 11,000 votes combined) and Elvis Presley's "Love Me Tender" came out on top of them both. The last poll started in 2006 and we removed some of the worst-performing songs in the poll and created a new one. Of the big hits of 2007 we couldn't find any that we think will go down in history as a classic love song, so no new songs were added this time. Go ahead and vote in the latest love song poll, and also see the results from our 2006 love song poll and the 2004 love song poll at AlaskaJim.com.

THO 100 Update for the week ending February 2, 2008

The top of the THO chart is pretty boring this week - the top six songs do not change positions. So we'll focus on lower down the chart, where Goldfrapp enters the chart at #39 with their new single "A&E." It is getting virtually no airplay on U.S. radio stations but the song has quickly spread virally over the Internet, and should debut on the next official U.K. chart. Check out the full THO 100 and the other seven debuts.

Top Songs of 1987

The results of our 1987 poll are filled with the huge artists you would certainly expect from that year: U2, Madonna, Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson, etc. With the latest round of votes tallied, U2 barely misses the #1 position, which is still occupied by Madonna. But some other surprises (at least to us) made the top 10, including Whitesnake, Heart and Belinda Carlisle. We invite you to vote on more of these 80s polls and to check out the latest results.
